and activities
Project Africa is the international arm of ETSS Tewahedo Social services to help disadvantaged remote residents of Ethiopia focusing to serve youth and families who live in poverty and reside in the remote inaccessible regions of Ethiopia. Our initial project will focus on the Amhara region and areas who have been neglected for millennium because of ragged mountainous areas, devastated by war and lack of infrastructure. Project Africa offers programs and services, designed to be age and needs appropriate, that address the many barriers and challenges faced by remote farmers as they moved towards urbanization, self-sufficiency and integration of the global economy.
Basically, Project Africa plans to provide economic stability (employment, financial empowerment, food insecurity, self-employment…), health and wellness prevention, education, peace and reconciliation and other supporting services. Project Africa first initiate the education component on distance learning for high school students to increase their high school graduation rate.
There is a great need for quality early education and high school graduation in the remote rural farmer residents of Ethiopia. The program focusses on students who can’t afford to cover their clothing, books, food and shelter and are far from regular school institutions. At several of villages, students are struggling with their behavior and social emotional skills due to trauma because of war and loss of their families. Many of the students have spent time living helping their families or have endured other Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), such as food insecurity and parents dealing with mental health issues. Their trauma backgrounds make it even more difficult for them to learn in traditional schooling environments. The students need a lot of movement and positive reinforcement to help them focus and learn. ETSS designed a remote digital learning system from K- 12 graders.
ETSS Tewahedo partner with Dr. Nega Education Center to provide a remote learning system called The Learning Management System (LMS);
The Learning Management System:
This program utilizes a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS) called LearnDash, located at etssonline.org. LearnDash empowers students in grades K-12 to select age-appropriate digital content that aligns with their learning goals. Students and parents can conveniently track progress and performance through the LMS, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
